Organize your wardrobe and store your clothes properly.

Is your wardrobe bursting at the seams? You probably know this situation: you have so many options to choose from that you don't know what to wear today, not to mention what clothes you actually have. Now is the right time to change this state of affairs, as during the transitional period between winter and summer, we swap warm clothes for more breathable ones.

With this 8-step plan, the chaos will finally disappear from your wardrobe:

Plan your organizational system

Before you start organizing your wardrobe, think about how you want your organizational system to look. Why is a system necessary? Only when you know exactly where you keep each piece of clothing will you be able to find them even when you have little time in the morning before work. Consider where you can store additional clothes:

  • Clothes that you wear regularly
  • Clothes that you rarely use
  • New clothes that you really want to wear
  • Clothes that have already been worn but want to be worn again before they go to the laundry.
  • New shoes and frequently worn shoes
  • Rarely worn shoes

Do you share a wardrobe with a partner or family member? Then consider how to best divide the wardrobe into sections for each person. Also ask yourself whether you want to sort clothes by specific categories, such as by color, type, or occasion.

Prepare clothing

Have you thought about a system that perfectly fits your living conditions? Now it's time to prepare your clothes. First, put the clothes you haven't washed in a while into the washing machine. Dirty clothes quickly transfer their smell to other items. Next, you can start folding them or hanging them on hangers. Before putting shoes away, they should also be cleaned. By the way, unpleasant odors can be removed by placing tea bags in the shoes. If you want to store clothes or shoes in boxes, for example, because you don't need them every day, always label the boxes. This way, you can immediately determine whether the clothes are for winter, for sports, or for rainy weather.

Proper storage of clothes

Now it's time to sort the clothes. At this stage, it is important to be particularly careful and stick to the planned system to avoid chaos breaking out immediately. Follow these tips, and you will definitely be able to maintain order:

  • Store the clothes you use often at eye level. This way, you won't have to constantly reach for the top shelf or rummage through the bottom drawers.
  • In the case of clothes that wrinkle easily, they should be hung on a hanger, leaving enough space between individual garments.
  • Do you keep your underwear and socks in a large drawer? Then use boxes to divide the drawer into individual compartments.
  • Do you have a lot of clothes that you can only wear in one season? To have a little more space in your closet, you can use storage boxes for unused clothes under the bed, in the basement, or in the attic.

Protect your clothes

Although the clothes are now nicely organized, they are not fully protected.
A big problem with clothes that you do not use regularly is dust. For shoes and clothes that can be folded, a good way to protect them from dust is closed boxes. Evening gowns and suits are best stored in garment bags.
Closed boxes not only protect against household dust but also against odors and moths. Of course, you cannot store all everyday clothes this way. Therefore, it is worth hanging small sachets of lavender, which will give the clothes a pleasant scent and prevent small holes from moths.
Do you store clothes from other seasons in the basement or attic? Here, in addition to the dangers associated with insects, dust, and unpleasant odors, there is also high humidity in the air, which can cause clothes to mold. Therefore, you should ensure that the boxes have a tightly fitting lid: For example, you should use boxes with a rubber seal, as they can be closed completely airtight.

From time to time, check the clothes.

Do you have ten minutes of free time? Then take a look in your closet or stored clothes and check the points below:

  • Are there any clothes that you no longer wear?
  • Are all the elements in the right place?
  • Do you find clothes that you forgot about and would like to wear again?
  • Do you have to wash or iron some clothes because you can't wear them in the state they are in?

Regularly tidy up your clothes

After some time, you realize that the chosen organizational system is not for you? No problem, just readjust it to your needs. The ideal time for this is the period between winter and summer when you need to put away the stored clothes back in the closet.
To speed up this process as much as possible, you can use a practical organizational system. Instead of gathering all the clothes in one large box, sort them by category into different boxes and label them accordingly. At the beginning of the season, you can take the stacks of clothes out of the boxes and put them back in the closet.

Find clothing at any time

Stored Clothes
When you take out clothes from the basement from the previous season, you often find with surprise that you completely forgot what items you own. To avoid accidentally buying everything twice, you should review the stored clothes. The best way to do this is to use clear and labeled storage boxes.

In the Closet
Even a closet can quickly become a jungle full of surprises. You have already taken the first step towards overcoming the chaos by sorting by category.
A small tip to speed up getting dressed early in the morning: on Sunday evening, prepare outfits for the entire next week. You can also do this every evening for the next day. You will notice how much time you suddenly have in the morning before work.

Find the perfect solution for your daily life

You can plan and organize as much as you want, but in everyday life, your organization can suddenly become completely impractical. Do you always need a chair to reach for your clothes? Then move those clothes to eye level. Do other t-shirts fall out of the drawer when you only want to pull out one? Just hang the t-shirts on hangers.
There is a solution to every problem. So don't lose patience, but always adjust your wardrobe to your life situation.
