Get organized like the pros: The best tips for your wardrobe

Does your wardrobe sometimes smell musty, is it overflowing, or could it use a little inner beauty? If so, the tips below are just for you!

Organizing is half the success

The first step to organizing your wardrobe is always to tidy it up. Because let's be honest, most of us probably have too many clothes. So start by gathering all the clothes you no longer wear, for example, because they are damaged, don't fit you, or you simply don't like them.

Do you have a problem saying goodbye to clothes? Pay attention to how long you haven't worn certain items. This can be done in several ways:

1. The next time you organize your wardrobe, hang the hangers in the opposite direction to how you usually hang them. When putting worn clothes back, you should turn the hanger. If after six months the hanger hasn't changed position, it's a sign that the item hasn't been worn at all and can be thrown away.

2. If you want to get a little creative, instead hang pretty ribbons on the hangers with the date of the last use written on them.

3. When sorting folded clothes, place a piece of paper with the current date on top of the pile. What you find underneath after six months, you probably won't wear in the future.

Have you already organized a few pieces of your wardrobe? Very good, but you shouldn't just throw them away - undamaged clothes should be sold, donated, or given away.
The average German buys 60 pieces of clothing every year! To ensure that after another season and a few purchases your wardrobe isn't as overcrowded as it was at the beginning, you can apply the following rule: Every time a new item of clothing appears in your wardrobe, an old one should be removed from it.

A wardrobe like a picture book

Do you pay special attention to making sure your wardrobe is not only organized but also looks attractive from the inside? Then sort your clothes by color: For example, hang them in a color gradient from light to dark or stack clothes of similar colors on top of each other. If you use storage boxes in your wardrobe, choose them in one color that you like. All hangers should look the same so that the interior of the wardrobe looks as harmonious as possible.

Use seasonal wardrobe

To free up as much space as possible in the closet, you should store only what is currently needed. Is the weather outside getting warmer? Then sort out winter clothes and hide them under the bed, in the basement, or in the attic. It is best to use transparent storage boxes so that you can see what is stored in them later. Alternatively, you can label the boxes as well.

Save the overview

Have you packed all the clothes you don't need right now? You may encounter this problem: at the beginning of the next season, you unpack clothes from boxes and notice that once again you bought a new gray knitted sweater, even though you already have three similar ones.
To avoid forgetting what we already have at home, it is necessary to make a detailed list of the contents of the storage boxes. The best way is to take photos while packing the boxes, accurately recording what is inside them.

Use drawers and roll up clothes

Your wardrobe doesn't have to consist solely of hangers and shelves. Storing in drawers has many advantages, provided that the best organization system is applied.
First, divide the drawers using matching baskets or boxes. To maximize space in the compartments and ensure good visibility, roll up socks, tights, underwear, and belts. The compartments in the drawers not only help keep things organized but also instantly inform you when laundry needs to be done.
The rolling technique can also be applied to T-shirts, pajamas, cotton shirts, leggings, and polyester shorts, as they are usually thin and flexible. This technique allows for space-saving when applied correctly. Instead of folding and stacking delicate, thinner clothes, simply fold them in half and roll them into neat tubes. Once rolled, they can be placed in storage boxes.
A wardrobe is a place where many small items can be stored: Jewelry, belts, scarves, ties, and many others. The best way to store small items and jewelry is to use adhesive hooks, which can be attached to the inside of the wardrobe doors or on an empty wall.

A fragrant wardrobe - with your old socks

Maybe you know how it is: you don't wear some clothes for a long time and the whole wardrobe starts to smell. That's why from time to time you should wash the clothes you haven't worn in a while. Occasionally, open the doors and let the wardrobe air out for a few minutes. Since dust also accumulates in the wardrobe, you should also wipe the shelves.
To keep a fresh scent in the wardrobe, you can use a little trick. All you need is an old sock, 2 or 3 tea bags, essential oil, and a ribbon. Put the tea bags in the sock, add a few drops of fragrance oil, and tie the sock with a ribbon - that's how quickly and cheaply you can make an air freshener for your wardrobe.
